Popular surf forecasting web site MagicSeaweed.com delivers the latest forecasts and reports, web cams, wave buoys and other resources for surfers all over the world.
Owned by Metcentral, a provider of weather forecasts for a full range of outdoor and adventure sports, MagicSeaweed.com collates surf and weather related data to create its own forecasts, giving surfers an overview of current and predicted conditions across the globe.
In order to extend the ways in which users could access the information gathered by MagicSeaweed.com, Metcentral linked up with Esendex to make long range forecasts and live wave buoy reports available by SMS direct to mobile phones.
Metcentral chose Esendex’s premium rate SMS solution as it allows MagicSeaweed.com to respond directly to texts requesting forecasts. Users simply text their query using a number and a code listed on the web site and in regional newspapers.
Premium Rate SMS has proven to be the ideal charging mechanism for these forecasts. Director of Metcentral and founder of MagicSeaweed.com, Ben Freeston, explains:
