Esendex engineers have helped devise a system to speed up wage payments and notify IT contractors when their salaries are in the bank - all by text message.
Most freelance contractors find work through agencies. They are paid weekly, but the process is complicated. The contractors have to submit time sheets to their agency which then invoices the employer who pays the agency. Then the contractor’s accountants invoice the agency on behalf of the contractor. The agency pays the accountants who take account of expenses incurred before subtracting tax and national insurance contributions and finally paying the net wages into the contractor’s bank account.
The process could take weeks but good contractors are rare and employers must pay promptly to keep them.
The system devised triggers a series of automated text messages at every stage of the process. So the contractors receive an SMS reminding them to submit their time sheets. They receive another confirming it’s arrived at the agency. As soon as the agency invoice is drawn up the employer receives a text message alerting them that it is ready to be downloaded electronically - no need to wait for the post. And so the messages continue until finally the contractor receives an SMS text saying: "the money is in your account". Eaman Semmakie, Managing Director of eMarketing Developments says:
